Privacy notice
What personal data we collect, why, and your rights. No cookies, no tracking.
Last updated: 19 October 2026
This notice explains what personal data Scientinel collects through scientinel.com, why, and what rights you have. We collect as little as we can: the site uses no analytics, no advertising and no tracking cookies.
Who is responsible
The controller of your personal data is Scientinel ApS, Ryegade 62, 2100 København Ø, Denmark, CVR 36010460. You can reach us about privacy at [email protected] or through the contact form.
What we collect, why, and on what basis
When you use the contact form
We receive your name, work email, organisation, the topic, sector and region you choose, and your message. We use them to answer you and to scope any work you ask about. The legal basis is taking steps at your request before a possible contract (GDPR Art. 6(1)(b)) and our legitimate interest in replying to enquiries (Art. 6(1)(f)). The form is delivered to us by our form service, Formspree, Inc. (USA), which passes your message on to us by email.
We keep enquiries for 12 months after our last contact, longer only if they lead to a contract, in which case contract records are kept as Danish bookkeeping law requires.
When you become a member
If you create a member account, we store your email address, your name if you give it, when you joined and your membership status, so you can sign in and read members' articles. We send you only the emails your account needs, such as sign-in links; we do not send newsletters. The legal basis is our contract with you (Art. 6(1)(b)). You can delete your account at any time, and we then delete your data, except payment records that Danish bookkeeping law requires us to keep. Member data is held in our own publishing system (Ghost), on our own servers in Copenhagen, Denmark. Account emails are sent through Apple's iCloud Mail. Paid memberships are not open yet; before they are, we will name the payment provider here.
When you follow us on the fediverse
If you follow @[email protected] from Mastodon or another fediverse app, our server receives your public profile and handle, and any replies you send to our posts. Fediverse replies are public by design. The legal basis is our legitimate interest in running the account you chose to interact with (Art. 6(1)(f)). You can unfollow or delete your replies at any time from your own server.
When you visit the site
Like every website, ours receives technical data with each request: your IP address, browser type, the page you asked for and the time. We use it only to deliver pages, keep the site secure and stop abuse (legitimate interest, Art. 6(1)(f)). The site is delivered through Cloudflare, Inc. (USA), which protects it and serves it quickly and therefore sees your IP address. Our own servers in Copenhagen record which pages are requested and when, but not your IP address.
Two parts of the page load from other services, which therefore also see your IP address:
- jsDelivr, a public content delivery network, supplies the script for the membership window (signing in and becoming a member). Site search is served from scientinel.com itself.
- climate.services, our own climate data service, supplies the atmospheric CO₂ figure on the home page.
Links to other sites, such as the App Store, open those sites, whose own privacy policies apply.
Cookies and similar technologies
When you browse scientinel.com, we set no cookies and store nothing in your browser. That is why there is no cookie banner.
The one exception: if you sign in to your member account, Ghost sets sign-in cookies (ghost-members-ssr and ghost-members-ssr.sig) to keep you signed in. They are strictly necessary for the sign-in you asked for, so they need no consent, and they are removed when you sign out or they expire.
Who else receives your data
We do not sell personal data or share it for marketing. The service providers above process it only on our instructions:
- Cloudflare, Inc. (USA): site delivery and security
- Formspree, Inc. (USA): contact form delivery
- Apple Distribution International Ltd. (Ireland), iCloud Mail: sending member account emails
- jsDelivr (public CDN): the membership window script
Cloudflare is certified under the EU–US Data Privacy Framework, which the European Commission recognises as giving adequate protection, and otherwise relies on the Commission's Standard Contractual Clauses. Formspree and Apple rely on the Standard Contractual Clauses.
Your rights
You have the right to access the personal data we hold about you, to have it corrected or erased, to restrict or object to its use, to receive it in a portable format, and to withdraw consent at any time without affecting earlier processing. Write to [email protected] and we will reply within one month.
You can also complain to the Danish Data Protection Agency, Datatilsynet, Carl Jacobsens Vej 35, 2500 Valby, Denmark (datatilsynet.dk).
Security
The site is served only over encrypted connections, and its administration is not reachable from the public internet.
Changes
If we change how we handle personal data, we will update this notice and the date at the top.
