Frequently asked questions

How we work, who we are, and why we focus on high-end scenarios.

Do you offer a global service?

At Scientinel we offer a global online service, but we have a strict no flying policy. Currently we operates from Denmark, Sweden and Norway. Our consultants are able to provide a wide range of services online, but we will not fly for business purposes.

Who is who?

Scientinel was founded in 2012 by Diogo de Gusmão-Sørensen, following his work as a senior climate scientist at the Met Office Hadley Centre (UK). Since then it has grown to a small team of twelve, focussing entirely on climate consultancy.

Why focus on high-end extreme scenarios?

The Scientinel team believes that business-as-usual scenarios are no longer fit for purpose. This is derived from our very own professional experience where high-end projections from merely 15 years ago have become today’s average scenarios.

Do you participate in conferences?

Our team members have participated in dozens of conferences since 2012, however, 92% of these have been attended remotely, including as guest speaker(s). Staff representing Scientinel are not allowed to fly – not even for academic purposes..

Are you active on social media?

The Scientinel team does not use or endorse any centralised social media platforms. However some of our products do have a strong social media footprint (e.g., our Sea Levels App). We also use a private social network server, to communicate and share news and science updates internally and with our clients.

Do you develop software?

Scientinel has to date developed several proprietary tools and models that deliver critical climate information to our clients. Further to that, we always aim to share some of the knowledge with the public at large. In 2024 we released the world’s first extreme sea-level rise app, and we intend to release another app on extreme global temperatures in 2025.
